Candida Powell-Williams about her work:
My work plays with the relationship between the body and objects and internal and external spaces through bizarrely dysfunctional or post-functional sculptures. Fundamentally they come from a desire to make and an enjoyment of 'stuff' and what materials signify and mean to us; this is led by our daily exchanges with and expectations of the material world.
The forms are derived from a multitude of disparate objects that we know and understand but transposed into a nonsensical collage with layers of varying connotations. The making of the objects is evident, investigating raw materials and gesture in a theatrical way. Colour and humour playfully animates them yet also signifies hysteria, sadness, and failure. The objects and instillations exist and invite the viewer into the space between real experience and the imagination.
