The Link Gallery
The hospital space that connects people to art
The task:
A very long corridor (60m), a high number of visitors, staff that are curious to see something new, patients who long to be distracted, and a very tight budget.
The solution:
The JHR Trust is very dedicated to contemporary art. But they are also aware of the importance that the art that is displayed has to be accessible. A hospital is not a gallery. And most of the people who pass this space would not go into one.
However, the more you learn about a subject the more interesting it becomes. Therefore the Link Gallery does not only showcase new contemporary art, it tells the stories behind the artists and the art. The hope is that it will encourage the visitors to explore more of Oxford’s exciting contemporary art scene.
There are four exhibitions planned for every year.
The result
The feedback book is full of praise, as well as some harsh 'art critic'. The different exhibitions are a reward for the staff, a welcomed distraction for the patients, and also a wonderful opportunity for Oxford artists to exhibit their work.
