Physical 8, fabric and rope, 2009

My work seeks to confront our fears of mediocrity. I explore possibilities of desire and conquest and create narratives around objects, experiences, signs and places. My interests lie in the aftermath and all that comes with it, often referring to states of post-action and post-celebration.

Physical 8 is dressed in ribbons, reminiscent of team sports and prize winning. This work stands proud and forward facing but the back is bedraggled and unsightly exposing a contrary view. The structure of this piece is made from 100 metres of rope twisted into a figure of eight and repeated again and again. Physical 8 embodies ideas of aspiration and prowess alongside a structure and method.
