Ethan Pollock
Untitled Interior 3.1, Oil on copper, 220mm x 250mm, 2009
Statement
My aim is to create quiet, meditative paintings that deal with themes of loss and desire. I try to develop playful dialogues with the history of painting, commandeer archaic themes and languages and breathe life into them through piracy and pillage. I'm looking for a Shakespearean balance of comedy and tragedy, and trying to disrupt our more puritanical expectations. Working on a small scale allows the paintings to develop a more intimate dialogue with the viewer, and behave as a keyhole to a more private and ambiguous place.
