Everybody is raving about Yayoi Kusama. I just digged out my old Peter Gabriel CD "Eve". Created in 1996, ages ago. But still one of the most beautiful multimedia games. Yahoi Kusama cooperated in a whole section: "Mud".

The CD still works and I somehow can remember the clues.

Antoni Tàpies

I just read that Antoni Tàpies has died yesterday. How very sad this is. I am always surprised how unknown he is even among art aficionados. There are two main contemporary art giants in Catalunia: Miro and Tàpies.
I still remember when I bought "my Tàpies". I saw this work at the Cologne Art Fair and I really really wanted to take it home at once. Only problem: I only had 30 Marks with me, no credit card, no passport. Georg Nothelfer, the gallerist, understood. He took the piece from the wall and wrapped it. "You can pay later", he said when he gave it to me.

Belonging

While the exhibition of Cally Trench's Board Games can be viewed at the LinkGallery, JRH invites patients, staff and volunteers for a play session.

Are you ready to steal vegetables, go on a shopping spree, or gamble with people’s lives? Cally Trench is showing images of her board games - Shopping Spree, Vegetable Thieves, Board Game, and Danger Money - in the Link Gallery.

What makes a board game designed by an artist so special?
Cally Trench makes board games. They have been described as 'subversive' and 'ethically confusing'.

Sounds good, doesn't it. Well, Cally Trench will be showing her games at the Link Gallery from October to December 2011. For the launch we are going to organize a gaming session.

Parlour Games is an interactive performance with artist Ann Rapstoff . The event is organized by the Friends of Modern Art Oxford. I am the 'Chair of the Friends', therefore I am promoting it.

The event takes place 7th of July, 7pm, which is quite easy to remember. Everybody is welcome. And it is free.

We invite you to an evening around the virtual fire in celebration of Parlour Games. The advent of the virtual world and video games has killed off Scrabble, singing and Monopoly. These kinds of activities, such as blind mans buff, often played by children, are part of a way of engaging the group and developing identity. In the past singing and story telling were central in wiling away the hours.

Using structures such as these, artist Ann Rapstoff invites you to an evening of parlour games, investigating questions and instructions that surround us in the home and reference the domestic space. You are invited to participate in a series of linked activities questioning the meaning of home and belonging.

Please bring along a domestic object, which holds some resonance or a story behind it, which you would like to share with the group.

Presenting the Workshop Studio

Tower Man trained for Listening (Jan Crombie)

Talk for Friends of Modern Art Oxford
First Thursday, 3 February, 7pm
H K COOPER & J D EDEN

For this First Thursday MAO Friends event we are looking behind the scenes of the gallery. We tend to celebrate the exhibiting artists, but most people don't know that the gallery assistants who are vigilating the space are artists as well. Jack Eden is one of them.

Jack is studying art at Oxford Brookes. Working collaboratively, Holly Cooper and Jack Eden will discuss a 2010 commission in Rose Hill and other works, working at Modern Art Oxford, and involvement with Modern Art Oxford's Art in Rose Hill program.

The images shows the Lenthall Road Oxford Allotment Association's shipping container-cum-shed painted with stripes as part of a 2010 commission.
