Magali Bellego

 recycled fabric, 2009

My work is based on my observations of life and my interest in people's personalities and odd behaviors.
Each piece is usually lighthearted and also one of a conceptual and humorous nature.
I am a never-growing child who'll never cease to wonder.

The project I am showing at the Graduated Pick exhibition titled 'Boris', represents the story of someone who is tired of the monotony of life and decides to shape-shift himself into different forest animals. These alter egos bring joy and comfort into his life.

The main character and each of its four animal costumes were all hand-made using mostly recycled fabrics.

I enjoyed the process of taking inspiration from real life stories and cases such as multiple personality disorders, then creating a fictional story. I combined these ideas to create three-dimensional toys that are witty and visually pleasing.
