Notfamousyet presents its “Graduate Pick 2009”

A selection of the brave, the unexpected, and the extremely exciting work of artists from some of the UK’s most prestigious Art Schools

The Notfamousyet gallery presents ”Graduate Pick 2009” a selection of artists from some of the UK’s most prestigious Art Schools. The show will start on 26th September 2009 in Oxford.

Every young artist and every work has been carefully selected to give visitors a snapshot of what is happening in the emerging art world. The aim is to show unique work with a promising new approach.

The “Notfamousyet Art Gallery” scanned all main Art School Degree Shows looking for fresh new work, for artists who are interested in finding their own artistic expression, instead of trying to serve the expectations of the current art market.

Are there any trends? If there are, then it is in the sheer variety.

The show will feature big energetic oil paintings by German-Turkish Ufuk Guerey who tells exaggerated stories about encounters and conflicts; in contrast to the subtle abstract paintings by Canadian Tessa Whitehead.

Conceptual art is getting more figurative: Philippino Maria Taniguchi develops her visuals by drifting from link to link using a websites such as Wikipedia. Taiwanese Ping-Yeh Li shows how visual exploration – he creates his own garden full of fantasy and flowers - can lead to (ironic) theoretical exploration.

The selection of artists reflects the internationality of students currently at British Art Colleges. The chosen Graduates come from very different parts of the world: Mexico, Taiwan, China, the Philippines, Korea, Germany and Canada, as well as from England they are:

Ufuk Gueray (Glasgow School of Art)

Maria Taniguchi and Changwan Park (University of London, Goldsmiths College)

Da Kyoung Jeong and Tessa Whitehead (UCL, Slade School of Fine Art)

Ping-Yeh Li (Edinburgh College of Art)

Jacob Wolff (University of Oxford, Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art)

Magali Bellego (American Intercontinental University)

Daisy Addison (Royal College of Art)

Work will be for sale, giving art collectors the opportunity to invest in some affordable highly talented artists.

The exhibition “Graduates Pick” will run from 26th September until 17th of October 2009. More information can be found on the website http://www.notfamousyet.co.uk.
